All Ears

We were shocked to learn about Camila's recent results of her sedated hearing test. She went from having a moderate conductive hearing loss (due to fluid in her middle ear, most likely having to do with her cleft palate) to a moderate to severe more permanent type hearing loss. All of us were shocked including the audiologist that performed the test. He told me he double checked and triple checked his results. Camila's hearing loss is the same as her brother's.

We have always believed Soliz' more permanent hearing loss is due to an overdose of seizure medication he experienced when he was 5 months old. The overdose put him into a cardiac pulmonary arrest for 10 minutes and very soon after that I ordered a hearing test. His results came back saying that he had a moderate to severe permanent hearing loss. In the small pool of research done about Wolf Hirschhorn kids and hearing loss, it mostly says that the majority of kids with any kind of hearing loss usually have the conductive type, that is usually resolved with tubes in the ears because it's all based on fluid in the ear. So again to hear this news about Camila is a shock.
Thursday is her big day to get her hearing aids! I am both so sad and so happy at the same time. Sad that she does have this significant hearing loss and so excited to see how she does with the help of hearing aids. We will all go as a family to cheer her on and support her tomorrow. Even Roman will be joining us! And later on that night a few friends will drop by to share an ear-shaped cake with us and toast to Camila and her new life with amplification!!!

So sorry to hear the sad news but excited that Camila is able to get hearing aids and still experience the sounds of life. Hope the fitting went well.
