Update on day III

Yesterday I got to hold my boy! It was stressful but the physical therapist said it would be good to get him up. He will heal faster if we get him to move at least a little. It took about 15 minutes to get his neck brace on and fully position him in my arms but once he settled he fell asleep and laid there for about a half hour. His little seester came for a visit later in the day! He was cleared to go to the main Pediatric floor but there were no beds so we got to spend another night in ICU. The attending Ped Dr. has been following Soliz’s progress since he came out of surgery. He didn’t have to but he’s the typical overachieving Asian. The staff here at St. Joes is world class! We have a nice large room on the 7th floor. You can see all of south Phoenix. South Mountain looks awesome from here!

Last night was a turning point. Soliz only woke at 2, 3 and 4am with some whimpering. I climbed into bed with him at 3 and we slept together. It was very special! The only pain relief he is getting right now is Tylenol with Hydrocodone and Valium. He is off the Phenatol so this morning they removed both the IV in his hand and the mainline in his upper chest. This is great as there is less of a chance of infection. This morning he opened his eyes without crying and looked around! The swelling in his face has gone down and his eyes aren’t all cloudy from all the pain meds. He is unhooked from all the monitors. The only thing attached to him is an oxygen and heart rate sensor on his big toe. Today I hope to hold him some more and maybe go for a walk!
